My First Apartment

It’s crazy that I’ve been living in Portland for a year.

I’m about to move into my new apartment this weekend. (I’m half way moved in now, but no furniture.)

I wanted to post photos of my first big girl apartment so that I can always remember it.

These photos were taken at different times over the year, so that’s why there are different flowers/ no flowers.

I love my first apartment. I love the mix of Ikea and Antique furniture, I think the whole thing is me.

I’m excited to be finally be moving in with someone! Yay room mates!

Beverly Palm Print

I honestly can’t remember where I first saw the Beverly Palm Print, but I do remember it was the wallpaper version on some blog, years ago.

Originally from the Beverly Hills Hotel, the printed wallpaper has inspired many different products with the print over the years.

And I fell in love. HARD.

And I knew I had to have something with the palm print on.

I’ve scoured the internet, high and low for it.

Unfortunately, it tends to be rather expensive.

I’ve found pillows:

Society Social Pillow

From Society Social, $75

The Aestate Palm Print

From The Aestate, $61

And a phone case:

Sonix Beverly Hills CaseFrom Sonix Cases, $35

I’ve bought the phone case, and it is perfect! The light pink and green go well with my yellow iPhone 5c! I’m in love, and I’m so happy I held out for something I really love!

Barre3 in the Park

My roomie Kristen and I have been doing some Barre3 classes here in Portland over the last year, and I love it.

Barre3 was actually started in Portland, and the studio we go to is actually the first one.

On August 23rd (my birthday), they had their 6th anniversary Barre3 in the Park.

I went, and it was the most surreal experience. Doing barre, which is yoga, pilates and a bit of ballet all together, with 500+ people on the most beautiful day. Incredible!

Here’s some photos:

All other photos are from Barre3 Portland’s Facebook Page

It truly was an amazing experience, and I cannot wait to do it again next year!

That’s right, I turned 24 THREE weeks ago, and it was a wonderful night!

I ended up celebrating twice. Dinner on Friday and then again on Saturday. That didn’t include my trip home to my parent’s the weekend before.

So Friday, the plan was to meet my (soon to be) roomie and my friend at Departure Lounge, which is a fancy rooftop bar in a fancy hotel in downtown Portland. Well, I walked in, and this was my face:

Kristen (the roomie) had planned this surprise dinner for me! I had no idea. It was pretty funny, since we had talked about how I had always wanted a surprise party the week before. Little did I know, she was planning it!

Dinner was great, I got to see some people I hadn’t seen in a while.

The next morning, I woke up and went to Barre3 in the park, which will have it’s own post, but look how pretty it was!

That night, I met up with my friends at one of their apartments for a pre-game, since I live in the ‘burbs.

It was SO much fun celebrating! Some friends happened to be in town from Eugene, so they came along!

I swear I was laughing. Apparently I look like I’m going to cry when I laugh.

IMG_0256I was also pretty into this crown.

But a HUGE thank you to my wonderful friends that made my birthday a wonderful one!

Here’s to 24 being the best year yet!

PDX Guide: Lunch at Lardo

For lunch last week, my friend Katy and I went to to Lardo for lunch.

I’d read some really great reviews of it, so I had been wanting to try it for a while.

The day was beautiful, so we were able to sit outside in the tent.

I loved this sign!

My sandwich, The Amurican, which had barbecued bologna. (sounds weird, it was good)

Looks delicious, doesn’t it?

Their whole menu looked great, and I had a hard time choosing!

Movie Review: If I Stay

Last Tuesday, my friend Alexis and I went to see an advanced screening of If I Stay.

It was SO good. We both cried a lot, but the movie was fantastic.

The movie is set in Portland, which is why they had a screening here.

It was put on by Refinery29, which was fantastic!

After the showing they had hors d’oeuvres and drinks.

They showed the movie at the Mission Theatre, which is a McMenamins (an Oregon brewery with many locations).

We had ciders during the movie and popcorn. They also served basil lemonade, which was great!

Alexis and I had a wonderful time!

IMG_0205We also received tattoos and other goodies!

We could tweet into a vending machine and got lunch bags with sunglasses, chapstick and mints!

I would totally recommend the movie. It comes out August 22nd!

PDX Guide: Breakfast at Sweedeedee

A couple of months ago, my friend Kimina suggested we try Sweedeedee in North Portland for breakfast.

I had never heard of it, but I’m always up for a new restaurant!

We got there, and the line was pretty long, and the restaurant is pretty small (as all good restaurants in Portland are).

When we were in line, the lady working there told us it would take an hour to get our food, but we decided to stick it out.

Luckily you can grab a little piece of bread or cake or something.

I got a piece of Almond Cake and Kimina had a piece of zucchini bread.

They give you a cup for coffee and then have you sit outside while you wait for your table.

Sweedeedee Brunch

Luckily, they sat us right after we had sat down on the curb outside.

Sweedeedee Almond Cake

Looks great, huh?

Sweedeedee Avocado Toast

Kimina and I both got the avocado toast. It was on brown bread, which was a little heavy for the avocados, but I liked it.

It also came with an egg which was good, and a salad.

I really liked Sweedeedee. If I was to go back, I would get the potato plate, which sounded amazing!

The Striped Life

When I first started this blog, I had the idea that I wanted to become a blogger.

I’ve come to realize that that’s not really what I want.

I want my blog to become more of a journal so that i can remember the things I’ve done.

More like my travel blog I had when I studied abroad.

I’m still going to do restaurant reviews (because I like to eat).

I’m also going to write about books and movies and whatever else I’m interested in.

I’m also only going to blog when I feel like it. I’m not going to try and blog if I have nothing to write about.

So if people read this, or they don’t, I don’t care. It’s more for myself and my family if they want to read.

Friday Links & Loves

1. I get off work at noon today and I’m SO excited! I’m only going to be running some errands, but I can’t wait to do so while everyone else is still at work! I’m also heading to the coast on Monday! All I want is some clam chowder!

2. This restaurant review is so funny! The little girl is so cute! And the photos of her tasting different foods for the first time are hilarious!

3. I got Allegiant (the third Divergent book) from the library yesterday, and I can’t wait to read it! I still need to see Divergent (the movie). Was it any good?

4. I’ve been wanting to get a monogram necklace for a while, but I’ve got too many initials. #irishkidproblems No, really, I have 2 middle names, so I’ve been looking for a double monogram necklace, so I don’t have to pick one of my initials! I saw this one on instagram a couple of weeks ago, and I can’t wait to order!

5. I binge-watched the 3rd season of Hart of Dixie this last week, and I already cannot wait for it to come back, so good!

Have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend!

Spring/Summer Sandals

Now that it’s [kinda] stopped raining in Portland, I’ve been wearing more sandals.

I’ve been wearing the brown Madewell sandals below ALL the time, except when I’m wearing my Jack Rogers.

I love the Madewell Sandals so much, I bought them in black for my mom for Mother’s Day. She’s going on a trip to Europe this summer, and I thought they’d be comfy to wear while sight seeing.

Block heels have also been really in this spring, and I’ve been loving the trend. As someone who cannot walk in heels very well, I’m appreciative of something that is slightly easier to walk in.

These are some of my top picks of sandals for this season!

Jack Rogers Wedges | Loeffler Randall Heels | Franco Sarto Heels

Gap Sandals | Sam Edelman Block Heeled | J.Crew Tie-Dyed Sandals | J.Crew Jeweled | Madewell Crisscross Sandals

Have a great day!
